Artificial Intelligence Use Policy in Scientific Article Writing
The ethical use of artificial intelligence and AI-supported technologies in scientific articles submitted to our journal is considered a fundamental principle. These tools, which facilitate human life and contribute to scientific studies through technological advancements, are evaluated positively within certain frameworks. However, the potential for AI tools to violate scientific ethics raises significant concerns regarding the accuracy, originality, and impartiality of information. This policy aims to provide detailed guidance for authors, reviewers, and editors on the responsible and transparent use of AI technologies.
1. Fundamental Principles and Responsibility
• Human Responsibility in Article Writing is Essential: The content, accuracy, originality, integrity, and ethical compliance of articles are entirely under the responsibility of human author(s). Because AI tools lack the intellectual contribution, responsibility, and validation capabilities required for authorship, they do not exempt authors from their scientific and ethical responsibilities. AI tools may only be used as a supporting tool during the knowledge generation phase.
• Artificial Intelligence Cannot Be an Author: Generative AI tools may not be cited as authors or co-authors of an academic article under any circumstances. Our journal strictly prohibits the creation of false authorship using AI.
• Full Transparency in the Use of AI is Required: If AI is used at any stage of the manuscript production process, this must be disclosed clearly, concisely, and in detail.
• Prioritize Privacy: Editors and reviewers should not upload unpublished manuscripts or related materials submitted to them to AI tools to ensure privacy and intellectual property rights during the review process.
2. Classification of AI Use and Author Obligations
Authors must adhere to the following principles when using AI tools:
2.1. Supplementary AI Use (Disclosure Not Mandatory)
Language checkers used to improve grammar, spelling, punctuation, or fluency are considered supplementary AI. This use does not need to be explicitly disclosed in the article. However, authors are obligated to inform the editorial team at the upload stage. Authors are fully responsible for the authenticity and scientific integrity of the work.
2.2. Use of Generative Artificial Intelligence (Declaration Required)
If AI tools are used to directly create, transform, or meaningfully contribute to text, visuals, abstracts, bibliography, or other academic content, this use must be fully disclosed.
• Declaration Details: The name of the AI tool used (and its version, if applicable), its intended purpose, format, and the sections in which it is used (e.g., abstract drafting, literature summarization, visual creation) must be stated in the relevant section.
• Human Review and Verification: Because content generated by generative AI may be inaccurate or misleading, authors must carefully review it. They must assess it for accuracy, consistency, and scientific integrity, and make necessary adjustments.
• Reference and Citation Accuracy: AI tools are prohibited from generating fictitious, unverifiable, or invalid references. All sources must be verifiable and presented in accordance with academic standards.
• Use of Images and Figures: Images generated or edited using AI should not be used unless they are a natural part of the research design; conceptual diagrams and representative images should accurately reflect the author's understanding.
3. Prohibited Uses
The following uses are unacceptable or prohibited under journal policy:
• Direct generation of key content sections using AI.
• Generation, presentation, or evaluation of research findings using AI.
• Generation of the article's core arguments or theoretical contributions using AI.
4. AI Policy for Editors and Reviewers
• Confidentiality and Intellectual Property: Unpublished work should not be uploaded to AI tools.
• Use in Editorial Processes: AI tools may only be used with journal approval and in limited workflows.
• Management of Questionable Use: In cases of doubt, authors should be contacted and, if necessary, requested evidence.
5. Policy Violation Procedures
Violations of this policy may result in the following consequences:
• Rejection of the article during the review process;
• Retraction of the article or implementation of remedial measures if a violation is detected after publication;
• Rejection of future submissions for repeat violations.
